Considering CD packaging
I have come across these little beauties made by the creative studio that is BoxHead. I really like the design element present with these; it is a simple idea of greyboard, yellow foiling and a foam cd spot. I was a little puzzled as to how the cd would fix to the greyboard but it has since become clear, these little cd dots could work in almost any context. I am going to buy some and get designing.
CD Sleeve Considerations
As I was beginning to consider the CD sleeve to package my motion graphics, I decided I wanted to use a laser cut image on the outer sleeve with a coloured gradient on the inner jacket to act as a pattern. I thought I could have the Ministry of Sound logo laser cut out but then again maybe some geometric shapes could look enticing. Anyway, I had a little look at what was existing.....
The colouring on the inner jacket is vibrant and gives an visual indication of type of the music to be heard. I am not that keen on the type though, I think a shape would work better with my concept.
The way in which this sleeve opens and the simple cuts made to hold the cd in place. The brighter colouring also works well here.
These are the type of the geometric shapes I want to have cut out of my sleeve to reveal a gradient behind. I could even have photographs of a Ministry of Sound club night, in the way that they have been used here.
The simple use of a bellyband here turns the plain brown sleeve into something a little more. It is a cheap and easy way enhance the look of a simple sleeve.
Using shapes within the cut geometric shapes revealing only sections of the underneath. The crisp white colour makes the product seem more pure. I could have the outer sleeve white with a geometric sleeve cut out to reveal a gradient beneath.
....love the geometric shape used here!
Die cutting the sleeve (or laser cutting) to reveal the colour beneath is a technique I could use.
Having elements within the sleeve which can then be assembled to contain the product; inventive idea.
...packaging the cds in context to the content.
A resin mould has been created to produce this cd cover.

MTV Visuals
On considering what type to use, I decided to look at the MTV Dance logo in a little more depth. From what I have seen, the type used is pretty simple; a sans serif font, possibly orator std.
I am also looking into the type used when providing a description of what is seen on screen.
It is obvious that the same type is also used for this as for the 'Dance' part of the MTV Dance logo. I want to use this layout for providing information of the time/day and title of the TV show I am advertising.

MTV Idents
I tried to put these neatly in an pdf. document but it just wouldn't work, so they are taking up a lot of space but here they are......
The colours and geometric shapes evident here are what makes these. A bright colour scheme against a black background is what I want to use and achieve within my motion graphics.
This has made me consider that I could focus on the celebration of MoS being 20years old (as suggested previously in my crit)
The way in which the number is revealed from the left hand side and then comes into focus is a movement I could consider within my designs.
I want the MTV logo to appear on screen at the end of the ident as it does in the above. The transition of this could be sudden so that it causes an impact.
The use of clean cut type IN the geometric shape is another way I could take this. This could be a possibility for one of my idents ...maybe!
All of the above use motion of photographic images. This is something which I have previously consider, however, I think if it is not executed in the right way it has a very high chance of appearing 'tacky' and to use a club scene would be very 'cliche'.

Ministry of Sound Merchandise
Looking into the Ministry of Sound artwork and merchandise to see the colours used....
It seems there are a lot of bright colours used against either black/white or both. The artwork is very graphical with a bold use of colour in each. This use of colour is something which I should consider within the production of my artwork for my moving image.
All the merchandise is brightly coloured too and has the logo clearly displayed on it.
It may therefore be suitable to present the MoS logo on my work motion graphics work.
